Washington, DC  In response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address this evening, U.S. Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran issued the following statement:

“Tonight, the president laid out a concrete plan of action to build on the progress we’ve made to revitalize America. There is still hard work ahead, but the last two years have seen remarkable successes for American cities. With mayors and this administration working together, we have overcome a global pandemic, made real progress on gun safety, protected rights to same sex marriage, made the biggest investment ever to combat climate change, and begun the process to rebuild America’s infrastructure. Much of this work was done in a bipartisan way, and mayors remain eager to engage with the administration and members of both parties to see these new programs implemented in a way that helps the most people.

“Mayors are working every day to make progress and create a more perfect union. From hunger to housing, equity to economic opportunity, policing to public safety, mayors are fighting on the frontlines of the issues the president prioritized tonight. And as the president said, we can and must work together — across party, across region, across all levels of government — to continue making progress. Mayors value the partnership we have with this administration and members of both parties in Congress, and we look forward to working together to prove that we can still deliver for the people we serve.”
