America’s cities are the economic powerhouses of the country. More than 93% of future U.S. economic growth will be generated in our metro areas, which contribute more than 90% of gross domestic product and wages and more than 86% of all jobs in our national economy. By focusing on cities and metro areas as the economic engines that drive our national and state economies, mayors are taking their rightful role as national and international leaders.
Mayors are the CEOs of local governments — it’s their job to run their cities like a successful business with innovation and wise investments. The turnaround of many cities is due in large measure to the partnerships between mayors and their local business partners, as well as national and international partners.
As the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more, The U.S. Conference of Mayors values a strong and engaged business community within our organization, collaborating and working together to make cities — and the country — stronger. Cities and businesses — Mayors and CEOs — must work together to ensure the long-term prosperity of America.
We thank the corporate members who have chosen to be active with us through many successful joint ventures, and we welcome other corporations to become members. Through the Business Council, members play an active role in the work of the organization through numerous opportunities for involvement.
With the help of our esteemed Business Council members, The U.S. Conference of Mayors will continue to increase national and international business opportunities for our member mayors, strengthening local economies across the country.
