Washington, D.C. – Today, President Joe Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act. The bill and many of its component parts have been repeatedly championed by America’s mayors. Following the bill signing, U.S. Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran issued the following statement:

“This is a monumental day that mayors have been working toward for many years. Americans will now see lower costs for their health care and energy needs. Mayors were among the earliest voices warning about the existential threat of climate change, leading the way for decades to curb harmful carbon emissions at the local level while urgently calling for strong federal action. And, today, the federal government has responded in a big way. With this bill, our nation will reduce harmful carbon pollution and build a 21st-century economy powered by clean energy. We are grateful to President Biden, Leader Schumer, and Speaker Pelosi for their tireless work to get the job done. Our nation’s mayors celebrate this moment and look forward to working with the Administration and Congress on the implementation of this historic law in the coming months and years.”
