Washington, DC – Below is a statement by United States Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran on House passage of legislation protecting reproductive rights.

“Just last month at its annual meeting, the U.S. Conference of Mayors adopted policy that called on Members of Congress to swiftly pass legislation to codify a woman’s right to choose. Today the U.S. House of Representatives did just that when it passed the Women’s Health Protection Act. The mayors’ resolution also calls for protecting women’s access to healthcare and individual freedoms in the absence of protections at the federal level. The Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, also passed today, would help to fulfill this call.

“The nation’s mayors applaud House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her leadership in the wake of the Dobbs decision. And we commend the House for taking these important actions to ensure that women have the ability to make their own decisions about their health, their well-being and their future.”
