Formal Resolutions on Anti-Abortion Legislation, Trade Bill, Vaping Epidemic & More to be Debated

Washington, D.C. – Starting on June 28, more than 200 mayors from across the country will come together for the 87th Annual Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) to discuss a wide variety of priorities that contribute to the overall health of America’s cities. During the Meeting, they will consider and adopt policy resolutions on a range of issues, including anti-abortion legislation, the USMCA trade bill, the vaping epidemic, border security, climate and more. These resolutions guide the advocacy agenda of the organization and help shape the nation’s policy debate. The Meeting, which will be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, will run through Monday, July 1, 2019.
An opening press conference is scheduled for Friday, June 28 at 11:30 am HST.
Every year during USCM’s Annual Meeting, mayors propose and vote on a number of formal policy resolutions that cover a variety of topics. These resolutions allow mayors to debate the critical issues of the day and then move forward to speak with one voice as they advocate for cities on the state and federal level.
This year, 112 resolutions were submitted by member mayors. They will be considered by USCM’s Standing Committees and then voted on by all member mayors present during the Business Session on July 1. Each city has one vote, regardless of its size. Resolutions are divided into 10 categories, including:
- Children, Health and Human Services
- Community Development and Housing
- Criminal and Social Justice
- Energy
- Environment
- International Affairs
- Jobs, Education and the Workforce
- Metro Economies
- Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports
- Transportation and Communications
