Mayors continue to urge Congress to act to restore free and fair trade

Washington, D.C.— This week, the Senate will consider S.J. Res 49, a bipartisan resolution to end the national emergency President Trump declared to impose new tariffs on all imported goods. Since this trade war began, the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and its members have voiced their concerns about the devastating economic impact new tariffs will have on local communities – raising costs and slowing economic growth. Today, in support of the resolution, USCM President Columbus (OH) Mayor Andrew Ginther released the following statement:

“A bipartisan group of Senators are once again standing with America’s mayors in support of free and fair trade. Across the country, American families are being hurt by tariffs that slow economic growth and raise prices. It’s time for the national emergency declaration and trade war to end. We thank these senators, Democrats and Republicans, for their leadership and standing up for American families. America’s mayors are ready to work together to protect the economic well-being of communities across the nation. We urge the Senate to quicky consider and pass this resolution and for the House to do the same.”
