Washington, DC—Below is a statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Columbus (OH) Mayor Andrew Ginther on the Trump Administration’s directive to freeze federal grants, loans and other key assistance programs.

“America’s mayors are deeply concerned by the Trump Administration’s sweeping freeze of federal funding for grants, loans and other critical assistance programs. We are seeking clarification from the Administration on the scope of the freeze and are determined to use the full force of this organization to protect the funding that Congress allocated – funding that has contributed to the health and vitality of our cities for decades. We call on both houses of Congress to work with us and our allies, including state and local elected officials as well as non-profit, civic and religious organizations, to preserve these services and programs, which are fundamental to the success of our cities and the strength of our nation.”
