“The State of the Union is only as strong as our cities, and the people who call them home.”
Washington, D.C.— In advance of President Biden’s State of the Union address this week, the U.S Conference of Mayors released a new video highlighting American cities’ continued recovery and how local-federal partnerships are helping mayors make critical investments in their cities. The video features more than a dozen mayors talking about the strength of their cities, the progress they’ve made, and how important it is for mayors to have a seat at the table when developing federal policy. “America’s cities have been through a lot. On the other side, we’ve emerged safer, stronger, healthier, and more unified,” said USCM President Reno (NV) Mayor Hillary Schieve and USCM Vice President Andrew Ginther in the video. “It’s a success story that must be told. Let’s make the next year as productive as the last few, working together at the local and federal level – because the state of our union is only as strong as our cities and the people who call them home.”
The video also features Burnsville (MN) Mayor Elizabeth Kautz; Cincinnati (OH) Mayor Aftab Pureval; Cleveland (OH) Mayor Justin Bibb; Columbia (MO) Mayor Barbara Buffaloe; Fontana (CA) Mayor Acquanetta Warren; Fresno (CA) Mayor Jerry Dyer; Lansing (MI) Mayor Andy Schor; Lincoln (NE) Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird; Miami (FL) Mayor Francis Suarez; Montgomery (AL) Mayor Steven Reed; Oklahoma City (OK) Mayor David Holt; San Antonio (TX) Mayor Ron Nirenberg; Tampa (FL) Mayor Jane Castor; Waterloo (IA) Mayor Quentin Hart; and others.
