Washington, D.C. — Below is a statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Miami Mayor Francis X. Suarez on today’s announcement by the Biden Administration on the additional steps it is taking to keep American cities safe:
“Our nation and our cities are plagued with a nationwide surge in crime. Mayors across the nation are doing everything possible to prevent and reduce it, but we cannot do it alone. We are grateful that the Biden Administration has followed our lead in supporting our police and investing in tools—from technology to legal remedies—to keep police and our communities safe from contraband weaponry.
“We call on Congress to advance bipartisan legislation that protects our police, keeps our streets safe, and deals with illicit drugs and contraband weaponry.”
