Washington, DC—Below is a statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley on today’s Supreme Court decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act:
“The nation’s mayors applaud the Supreme Court’s decision today to once again uphold the Affordable Care Act. This should be the final word on this matter so that we can now focus on expanding access to affordable health coverage. Mayors know well the very real human toll that a lack of access to health care has on the lives of those in our communities. This reality was made all too painfully clear this past year as COVID-19 ravaged the country. As cities continue to address the ongoing health and economic impact of the pandemic, this ruling allows millions of Americans to breathe a little easier. And it allows Mayors across the country in big cities and small towns alike to remain focused on creating stronger, healthier and more equitable communities.”
