Washington, DC—Below is a statement by Tom Cochran, CEO and Executive Director of The U.S. Conference of Mayors, on the passing of United States Representative Louise Slaughter:
“The United States Conference of Mayors mourns the loss of our arts champion – U.S. Representative Louise Slaughter. For more than 30 years, Congresswoman Slaughter led the effort for federal support of our nation’s cultural infrastructure- the arts, humanities and museums. Each time these institutions were threatened with elimination, the mayors rallied behind her leadership. There can be no better lasting tribute to her than to continue the federal-local partnership on the arts. The nation’s mayors stand ready to strongly support this effort.”
