Washington, DC—Below is a statement from U.S. Conference of Mayors President Reno (NV) Mayor Hillary Schieve on this morning’s shooting in Burnsville (MN) that took the lives of two police officers and a fire department medic:
“America’s mayors are heartbroken to learn that two police officers and a fire department medic were shot and killed, and others were injured early this morning while responding to a call. We know that it’s not if, but when, a city will be hit by the tragedy of gun violence. Sadly, today was Burnsville.
“We stand with Burnsville Mayor, Elizabeth Kautz, a past president of the Conference, and the entire Burnsville community as they come to grips with the horror of what has happened. Three first responders lost their lives simply for doing their job.
“Enough is enough. Once again, we are left to ask what will it take for Congress to act—to actually protect—our first responders, our children, all Americans from the scourge of gun violence?
