The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been moving forward with new and upcoming policies intended to protect public health and the environment, and they will likely impact municipal services like drinking and wastewater utilities, clean air regulations and solid waste management. EPA has a long list of new rules and policies. These EPA actions will impose significant new unfunded federal mandates that local governments will face. These include:

  1. Lead and Copper Rule/Lead Line Replacement
  2. PFOS/PFOA – CERCLA Hazardous Substance Designation and Drinking Water Standard
  3. EPA’s new Financial Capability Guidance
  4. Waters of the United States (WOTUS).

USCM staff has assembled issue summaries on these major EPA actions. A slide deck is also included.

If you have any questions on any of these regulations, please reach out to jsheahan@usmayors.org or randerson@usmayors.org.
