Americorps

  • WHEREAS, the Americorps program allows volunteers to make an important contribution to U.S. cities in a variety of ways; and

    WHEREAS, the Americorps program has been included for retention in the current budget after having been slated for extinction by the House and Senate; and

    WHEREAS, Americorps is a high priority of the President, who has appointed Mayor Victor Ashe of Knoxville, former President of the Conference, to be a member of its Advisory Board,

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the U.S. Conference of Mayors expresses its appreciation to the President for working to ensure Americorps retention and for appointing Mayor Ashe to work with its Americorps leadership; and

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the U.S. Conference of Mayors expresses its gratitude to Congress for retaining Americorps and urges that it be included in the FY97 budget as well.
