American Forests
Description
American Forests supports mayors, and the cities they represent, to be greener, more equitable places to live and work.

Urban trees are critical infrastructure - but not all people have equal access to their social, economic and environmental benefits. Lower-income communities tend to have 26% less tree cover and are almost 7F hotter than wealthier ones. Communities of color – regardless of income – tend to have 38% less tree cover and are almost 10F hotter than predominantly white communities.

American Forests has developed comprehensive, science-driven tools that mayors can utilize for planning, financing, installing and protecting the right trees in the right places. We help teach, recruit and train the next generation of workforce needed to plant, protect, and restore urban forests; and we advocate for federal and state investments that fuel communities’ efforts to advance Tree Equity.

More than 100+ mayors and cities have already committed to advancing Tree Equity, and over the next 5 years we will be providing strategic grant funding, coaching & training, and technical assistance to continue building more equitable, livable cities across the country.
