Last updated: May 29, 2018

The United States Conference of Mayors (“us”, “we”, or “our”) operates the usmayors.org, USCM Community, and our mobile application (the “Service”).

This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information when you use our Service.

We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

We use your Personal Information for providing and improving the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection, storage and use of information in accordance with this policy. Unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy, terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions.

Information Collection And Use

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include but is not limited to, your email address, name, job positions, titles, other information (“Personal Information”).

We collect this information for the purpose of providing the Service, identifying and communicating with you, responding to your requests/inquiries, verifying appropriate access, and improving our services.

The only information that we do sell is our data products, such as “Mayors Data Extract”, which is made up entirely of public information and not any personal details of any mayor.

We do not share aggregated demographic information about our users with our partners and advertisers.

Registration

In order to use USCM Community or the Mobile Application, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration, a user is required to give certain information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact you about the products/services on our site in which you have expressed interest and it is also used to verify your access to a city’s profile. At your option, you may also provide demographic information (such as gender or age) about yourself, but it is not required.

Log Data

We collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics.

In addition, we may use third-party services such as Google Analytics that collect, monitor and analyze this type of information in order to increase our Service’s functionality. These third party service providers have their own privacy policies addressing how they use such information.

When you access the Service by or through a mobile device, we may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device’s unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser you use, your location information and other statistics.

Please see the section regarding Location Information below regarding the use of your location information and your options.

Orders

We request information from you on our order form. To buy from us, you must provide contact information (like name and shipping address) and financial information (like credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. If we have trouble processing an order, we’ll use this information to contact you.

Location information in Mobile Application

This Application may collect, use, and share User location Data in order to provide location-based services. We use this information to provide features of our Service (such as identifying if you are attending one of our meetings) to improve and customize our Service. Your location Data is required to use our Service and may be collected, used and shared while this Application is running in the foreground, background or stopped (using background geolocation services provided by mobile device operating systems).

By participating as a User of the Application, your proximity location data is shared with other participating Users of the Application. Your precise location data is not directly shared with other participating Users of the Application without your explicit approval for each precise location data point shared. We may privately and publicly use summarized and anonymized User location Data and such data may be shared with third-party sponsors. Your precise locations and personal identifying information are never provided to any third party sponsors.

Calendar Access in Mobile Application

The Application has a feature which will allow you to sync your customized agenda to your device calendar. You may grant access to this feature, which will allow us write access to create, remove, and make changes to your calendar when you add a session to your personal agenda. We do not store any of your other personal calendar data.

Camera Access in Mobile Application

The Application has a feature that allows you to take a photo of yourself with your device’s camera and use it as a profile photo. That profile photo is used to identify yourself as a user inside the Mobile Application and inside USCM Community.

Surveys

From time-to-time, our site requests information via surveys. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary and you may choose whether or not to participate and therefore disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. The Help feature on most browsers provides information on how to accept cookies, disable cookies or to notify you when receiving a new cookie.

If you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some features of our Service and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

Service Providers

We may employ third party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service, to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services and/or to assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

These third parties have access to your Personal Information only to perform specific tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use your information for any other purpose.

Compliance With Laws

We will disclose your Personal Information where required to do so by law or subpoena or if we believe that such action is necessary to comply with the law and the reasonable requests of law enforcement or to protect the security or integrity of our Service.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, and we strive to implement and maintain reasonable, commercially acceptable security procedures and practices appropriate to the nature of the information we store, in order to protect it from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure.

However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and we are unable to guarantee the absolute security of the Personal Information we have collected from you.

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the Web page.

Information transmitted between our Mobile Application and our online services is done so through an https protocol.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing, or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information.

The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.

International Transfer

Your information, including Personal Information, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction.

If you are located outside the United States and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the information, including Personal Information, to the United States and process it there.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

Links To Other Sites

Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

Children’s Privacy

On our meeting registration forms, we ask for the age of registrants under the age of 18 (“Children”) so that we may get an accurate accounting of how many Children of what age will attend the events at our meetings. Otherwise, our Service does not address Children and we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from Children. If you are a parent or guardian and you learn that your Children have provided us with Personal Information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Information from Children — other than for the purposes stated above — without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.

If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either through the Service or by placing a prominent notice on our website.
