WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives today took action to address the country’s housing affordability crisis by passing an amended version of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) now urges House and Senate lawmakers to continue working in a bipartisan, collaborative fashion to advance meaningful solutions and to come to agreement on a final bill. Amid Congress’ ongoing work, USCM President David Holt, Mayor of Oklahoma City, released the following statement:
“The high cost of housing continues to be the biggest affordability challenge facing American families. Mayors are taking steps every day to reduce regulation and incentivize investment to expand housing supply and lower costs, but lasting progress will require bipartisan partnership at every level of government. We have been encouraged by the ongoing work in Congress over the last two years towards final passage of a historic bipartisan package. Today’s overwhelming passage by the House of an amended version of the Senate bill is a welcome sign of progress. America’s mayors applaud the members of the House and Senate for their attention to this issue, and we stand ready to support final passage of a bill that can reach the President’s desk.”
