Arts and Business Partnerships Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Adopted at the 86th Annual Meeting in 2018
WHEREAS, the arts expose people to the multi-faceted creativity, traditions, and histories of various communities, and encourage conversations between what may be perceived as different groups; and
WHEREAS, businesses recognize the value of diverse workforces in driving innovation, strengthening brand reputation, and encouraging teamwork, and are investing resources to recruit and retain diverse talent; and
WHEREAS, research conducted by American for the Arts and the Conference Board found that "the arts can be an important component of diversity and inclusion strategies because of the opportunity to support the cultures of minority employees;"?
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the United States Conference of Mayors reaffirms the value of the arts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED, that The United States Conference of Mayors encourages businesses to leverage arts-based partnerships to achieve internal and external diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
