Support for the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage

Adopted at the 87th Annual Meeting in 2019

  • WHEREAS, the year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women's constitutional right to vote; and

    WHEREAS, this historic centennial offers an opportunity to commemorate a milestone of democracy; that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the federal or state governments on account of sex; and

    WHEREAS, The National Endowment for the Arts and its grantees in cities all across America, including museums, galleries, theaters, and festivals, are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage through arts and creative place making,

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The United States Conference of Mayors supports the efforts of cities and towns and the National Endowment for the Arts in the celebration granting all women the right to vote in the United States of America,

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that The United States Conference of Mayors encourages mayors to promote the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage and the 19th Amendment by urging museums in their communities to participate in this celebration.
