Washington, D.C. – Next week, more than 40 mayors and police chiefs from across the country will convene in Chicago, Illinois, to exchange best practices in city-level public safety and effective policing. The April 28th meeting – hosted by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) – will be led by Fresno (CA) Mayor Jerry Dyer, co-chair of USCM’s Mayors and Police Chiefs Task Force.
During the meeting, mayors and police chiefs will discuss and collaborate on best practices for addressing a variety of issues related to public safety and effective policing, as well as building relationships between local government and law enforcement. Key topics will include the current state of public safety in America’s cities, police department reform, emerging technology for first responders, and balancing federal-local needs in policing.
While the meeting is closed to press, participating mayors and police chiefs will hold a press conference on Monday, April 28 at 11:30AM CDT at the J.W. Marriott in downtown Chicago.
