READOUT: U.S. Conference of Mayors Meets with Labor Secretary Walsh, CDC Director Walensky, Biden Administration Officials to Discuss Eviction Prevention

Washington, D.C. — Today, following the new, targeted federal eviction moratorium based on evolving public health conditions, the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) hosted a virtual conversation on housing and eviction issues with Biden Administration officials. Noting the importance of keeping Americans safe and housed, participants discussed eviction diversion strategies and best practices for the swift delivery of emergency rental assistance funds. USCM President and Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and others emphasized the urgent public health, safety and economic case for a whole-of-government approach to prevent evictions. The group discussed the importance of federal, state, and local leaders working together to address this challenge. Mayors also received an update on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic and the public health imperative to keep people in their homes from CDC Director Rochelle Walensky.
