U.S. Conference of Mayors Leaders Attend Bill Signing Event at White House

Washington, D.C. – Today, with mayors representing the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and USCM CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran in attendance, President Joe Biden signed into law the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The legislation has been a long-time priority for America’s mayors, who have been urging Congress to send it to the president for his signature. USCM President Dayton (OH) Mayor Nan Whaley was among the mayors at today’s ceremony. Applauding the action, Mayor Whaley released the following statement:

“With this law, our nation and its cities can revitalize our infrastructure, strengthen our communities, create good-paying jobs, and make our economy more sustainable, resilient, and just. Having fought so hard for this historic, bipartisan legislation, mayors were honored to witness President Joe Biden signing it into law. Cities and mayors are on the front lines of many challenges facing the nation and its families – challenges we can better, more fully, and more quickly address, thanks to this once-in-a-generation package.

“Not only is this law important action on behalf of the American people, but it is also important evidence of what is possible with bipartisanship. Mayors understand what it means to put partisanship aside, which is why a group of over 350 mayors — including Republicans, Democrats and Independents from all 50 states — called for the passage of this legislation. Now, we must continue working together — across the aisle and across city, state, and federal levels — on its implementation, so we can ensure we build back better for families, small businesses, and cities.

“We thank members of Congress and President Biden, who helped make this momentous day a reality.”
