Washington, D.C. – Today, in an 89-2 vote, the United States Senate overwhelmingly passed S.914, the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021. The bipartisan bill would invest in the nation’s water infrastructure and address many of the water systems issues that communities across the country face, ensuring that all Americans will be able to access safe, clean water.
U.S. Conference of Mayors President Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer released the following statement in support of the bill following its passage:
“America’s mayors commend the Senate for working in a bipartisan fashion to pass the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021. Local governments are responsible for 98% of all water and wastewater infrastructure investment, but we cannot do it alone. The nation’s mayors need tools and resources to meet our water infrastructure demands. This bill not only recognizes those needs but is also a positive step in the right direction of addressing the nation’s larger infrastructure needs. We appreciate the hard work of all these Senators who came together in a bipartisan manner to pass this bill, and we look forward to partnering with them as we move forward to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure.”
