Washington, D.C.— On Thursday, April 1st, the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) will hold a virtual conversation at 1:00 p.m. EDT to discuss the increasing incidents of violence and hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in cities across the nation. The webinar will be led by Fremont Mayor Lily Mei who will be joined by Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice John C. Yang, Louisville Mayor and USCM President Greg Fischer and Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz. Staff members of the White House Office of Public Engagement and Office of Intergovernmental Affairs will also join the discussion to brief mayors on President Biden’s recent memorandum on condemning and combating racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States as well as his announcement of additional actions to respond to anti-Asian violence, xenophobia and bias. The USCM has condemned these dangerous and cruel acts and is working with mayors in their cities to build more inclusive communities that bring all people together.
