Washington, D.C. – Today at 11:00 AM ET, the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), the National League of Cities (NLC) and National Association of Counties (NACo) will hold a joint Zoom press conference to call on Congress to pass the direct fiscal assistance to cities and counties included in the Biden Administration’s American rescue plan. All three organizations have been at the forefront of fighting for communities that have suffered deeply from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in unprecedented economic pain, job losses, and budgets cuts in communities across the country, both urban, suburban and rural. The Biden plan includes $350 billion in direct flexible assistance to state and local governments. To date, Congress has almost entirely left behind local governments that are now facing painful fiscal choices that will have a lasting impact on America’s recovery if aid is not provided.
