The Bipartisan Official Policy of the USCM Was Recently Revised to Focus on Today’s Biggest Issues, Event Follows Launch of Agenda at DNC Last Week

Washington, DC – This past week, the US Conference of Mayors (USCM) participated in a virtual event at the Democratic National Convention to launch the newly-updated The Mayors’ 2020 Vision: An American Breakthrough. This bipartisan, comprehensive agenda lays out the solutions to the biggest challenges of our time and offers a roadmap for a breakthrough in America’s cities. To continue the conversation, the Mayors’ 2020 Vision will be the focus of a virtual event on Monday, August 24 at the Republican National Convention. Media are invited to join the discussion, which will take place virtually on Zoom, Monday at 2:00 pm ET.

Late last year, under the leadership of past President and Rochester Hills (MI) Mayor Bryan Barnett, the USCM released an earlier version of this far-reaching policy agenda. In the time since, the world has changed dramatically. New USCM President Greg Fischer recently asked a group of mayor-led task forces to update the policy to provide a greater focus on issues like racial justice and the continuing challenges posed by the COVID-19. The Mayors’ 2020 Vision released last week is the product of that work. It tackles issues such as climate, health care, the workforce, transportation, and gun violence.  Additionally, it highlights the urgent need for emergency fiscal assistance for all cities as they face significant revenue shortfalls as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Full details of the event can be found below. Media interested in participating should must register and are encouraged to RSVP to USCM Communications Director Sara Durr at sdurr@usmayors.org.
