The Bipartisan Official Policy of the USCM Has Been Revised to Focus on Today’s Biggest Issues, such as Racial Equality and the COVID-19 pandemic

Washington, DC – Every four years, the bipartisan US Conference of Mayors (USCM) participates in events at both major party committees’ conventions. This year, the opening day of the summer’s first convention will be the forum for releasing a revised USCM policy agenda for 2020. At a virtual event Monday to kick off the Democratic National Convention, the USCM will release its bipartisan The Mayors’ 2020 Vision: An American Breakthrough. This comprehensive agenda lays out the solutions to the biggest challenges of our time and offers a roadmap for a breakthrough in America’s cities.

Late last year, the USCM co-hosted with the non-profit Accelerator for America a forum with presidential candidates in Waterloo, Iowa to introduce an earlier version of this far-reaching policy agenda. In the time since, the world has changed dramatically. New USCM President Greg Fischer asked a group of mayor-led task forces to update the policy to provide a greater focus on issues like racial justice and the continuing challenges posed by the COVID-19. The Mayors’ 2020 Vision to be released Monday is the product of that work. It will also tackle major issues such as climate, health care, the workforce, transportation, and gun violence.

The event will take place virtually on Zoom, Monday at 1:00 pm ET.  Full details can be found below. Interested media should register here and also RSVP to USCM Communications Director Sara Durr at sdurr@usmayors.org.
