Will meet with DHS & CBP officials, visit related sites, on July 11, 2019
Washington, D.C. – Under the leadership of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) President, Rochester Hills (MI) Mayor Bryan Barnett, a bipartisan delegation of mayors from cities on or near the southern border will travel to El Paso on July 11 for a day-long meeting on the continuing situation at the border and its impact on their cities. The agenda includes discussion of individual city experiences, visits to related sites in El Paso, and meetings with DHS and CBP officials.
All meetings and tours are CLOSED to press. Mayors will report on their activities during a press conference to be held at El Paso City Hall on Thursday, July 11 at 2:15 pm MDT.
Mayors have a track record on speaking out on the border crisis, having traveled to Tornillo, TX to protest the policy of family separations at the border, and on calling upon Congress to pass emergency border funding for local governments.
Last week, during its 87th Annual Meeting, USCM passed several resolutions addressing the nation’s immigration policy, including a resolution sponsored by Mesa (AZ) Mayor John Giles calling for increased federal support to take on the humanitarian crisis at the border.
