Washington, D.C. – As the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) convenes in Washington, D.C. from January 24-26 to discuss how cities are leading the way while Washington is paralyzed, USCM President, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, will address the bipartisan conference with a ‘State of the Cities’ address highlghting mayoral leadership. Landrieu’s remarks, which will highlight a plenary session of over 200 mayors collectively representing 82% of the U.S. population, will focus on how local leadership will keeps American communities safe, prosperous and equitable while taking on the country’s key imperatives – as Washington plays politics with the urgent issues of our time.

From infrastructure to immigration, economic growth to the opioid crisis, Americans now look to their city hall for leadership – not Washington. Mayor Landrieu’s remarks will offer a powerful message to local leaders and Beltway insiders alike that the future of our politics starts at home and lists ways that mayors are forging forward and opportunities for Washington to create partnerships.

The 86^th Annual Winter Meeting, held in Washington, DC from January 24-26, will convene mayors from both sides of the aisle, from cities and towns rural, urban and suburban, for sessions on a range of issues – including infrastructure, immigration and DACA renewal, the opioid crisis, disaster preparedness and recovery, and the economic future of cities and the future of work.
