On Thursday, May 25th, The U.S. Conference of Mayors’ DollarWise Campaign met with Mayor Jim Gray to award the City of Lexington a $10,000 2017 DollarWise Innovation Grant to support and expand financial education resources within the city’s GLOBAL LEX program.

Joining Mayor Gray was Lexington City Council Member Jennifer Scutchfield, Lexington City Council Member Peggy Henson, Global LEX Multicultural Affairs Coordinator Isabel Taylor, and Merrill Lynch Senior Vice President Mollie Brennan.

“Financial literacy – proper money management, budgeting, understanding the importance of savings is an essential part of everyone’s education,” Gray said.

GLOBAL LEX is charged with assessing and providing service needs to Lexington’s immigrants, refugees, visitors, and other limited English proficient individuals. The program supports civic integration and access to business and services in over 150 languages, in compliance with state and federal law. GLOBAL LEX will use its DollarWise Innovation Grant to leverage its successful Driver’s Education training model to provide financial education to participants undergoing English as a Second Language classes.

DollarWise applauds the City of Lexington and GLOBAL LEX for their tremendous efforts that impact so many.
