Mayors Ask What Youth Can Do: Mayors will visit middle and high schools to discuss their own paths to public service and why it is important for young people to be engaged in their community. In preparation for the mayor's visit, Harvard's Institute of Politics will provide each classroom teacher with a copy of President Kennedy's inaugural address and talking points for the address, in particular the President's call to service. The discussions will also look at the important role a mayor plays in the city. A video presentation of mayors speaking with young people and remarks on how his legacy has influenced mayors across the nation will be shown during the 79th Winter Meeting

Caroline Kennedy will address The United States Conference of Mayors 79th Winter Meeting on the legacy of John F. Kennedy on the 50th anniversary of his inauguration and call for public service.
The Presidency of John F. Kennedy: A 50th Anniversary Celebration Opening Concert (for mayors attending 79th Winter Meeting ONLY) On the 50th anniversary of his inauguration, the Kennedy Center presents a special Opening Night Celebration paying tribute to the artistic legacy of President John F. Kennedy with the NSO, American Ballet Theatre, and more. This star'studded evening opens the Kennedy Center's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Hosted by Diane Sawyer and Mike Nichols, the evening includes appearances and performances by Julie Andrews, Harolyn Blackwell, Herbie Hancock, Yo-Yo Ma, The Manzari Brothers, Terrence McNally, Lorne Michaels, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Paul Simon, and others. Additionally, American Ballet Theatre will perform The Dying Swan. Kennedy Center and National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Music Director Christoph Eschenbach will conduct the NSO in the world premiere composition by Peter Lieberson with narration by Morgan Freeman titled Remembering JFK: An American Elegy. The work was commissioned by the Kennedy Center and includes text taken from President Kennedy's speeches and writings.

Each Mayor will receive one ticket when he/she picks up their badges at registration for this sold out performance.
