Oklahoma City Mayor Cornett Named President of Republican Mayors

By Ed Somers
December 20, 2006

The Republican Mayors and Local Elected Officials (RMLO) organization has named Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett as its new President. Cornett succeeds Charlotte (NC) Mayor Patrick McCory, who led the organization for several years, including during the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City.

Oklahoma City is the third largest American city to have a Republican mayor. Cornett was elected mayor in 2004 in a special election, and was reelected in 2006 with 87 percent of the vote. Prior to entering public service, Cornett worked 20 years as a television news anchor. He also currently serves as chair of the Conference of Mayors Urban Economic Policy Committee.
