December 15, 2008
The MWMA's Fall Summit launched its second day of sessions with a breakfast gathering featuring Dominic Meo of Meo & Associates and Ruth Galanter, former LA City Council Member and Community Activist. The session was entitled "Waste to Energy Technologies, Advancements, Barriers and Opportunities." The session centered on waste to energy facilities that meet emissions put in place by Southern California Standards. Mr. Meo of Meo & Associates in association with Green Conversion Systems was on hand to present on economic trends, product recovery, energy recovery from non recyclable waste and the reuse of products from the energy recovery process. Ruth Galanter presented on the other side of the debate and suggested caution and research when deciding to use a waste to energy facility within the community. As a former member of the LA City Council and now a community activist, Galanter wanted MWMA attendees to understand that there are sides to every story and cities need to study their options before siding with one or the other.
