Warsaw Mayor Wins Presidential Election in Poland

Warsaw Mayor Lech Kaczynski, with whom the Conference of Mayors delegation to Poland met in September 2004, won the October 23, 2005, Presidential election to become President-Elect of his nation. In this photo of the Conference delegation’s meeting with Mayor Kaczynski at Warsaw City Hall, left to right, are Conference Executive Director Tom Cochran, Conference Past President Akron Mayor Donald L. Plusquellic, Warsaw Mayor Lech Kaczynski, U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe, and Conference Vice President Dearborn Mayor Michael A. Guido. Poland’s current President, Kazimierz Kwasniewski, will retire on December 23, 2005, at the end of his second and constitutionally-mandated final term.
