December 9, 2002
More than 100 urban environmental professionals from across the United States and Puerto Rico gathered in Pittsburgh November 20-22 for the Municipal Waste Management Association's 2002 Fall Summit. An environmental affiliate of the Conference of Mayors, MWMA focuses on issues surrounding integrated waste management, including operations, recycling, waste to energy, air and water. MWMA President and Pittsburgh Deputy Director of Public Works, LaMar Barnes touted the importance of the Fall Summit. "Environmental professionals have the opportunity to learn with and from each other. We spent two and a half days exploring issues as diverse as urban litter programs, waste to energy solutions, training your drivers and shared responsibility." The highlight of the program is always the Urban Summit, the public sector only round table discussion, a forum for MWMA members to share their challengeFor more information about MWMA, full text of articles about the section, handouts and additional articles about Training the Driver, Urban Litter and Waste Reduction and speaker bios, log on to www.usmayors.org/mwma or contact Susan Jarvis at 202.861.6760; sjarvis@usmayors.org
