Former Macon Mayor Marshall Winner in Close Georgia Congressional Race

November 20, 2006

Georgia officials certified votes November 15 in two extremely close Congressional races, putting Democratic incumbents Jim Marshall of Macon and John Barrow of Savannah as official winners.

Marshall, a Vietnam veteran, was mayor of Macon from 1995 to 1999 before being elected to Congress. He began serving in 2003. Marshall won his race against his Republican challenger, Mac Collins, by more than one percent: 1,752 votes.

His committee assignments are the House Agriculture and Armed Services Committees.
