Mayors Moderate Panels: Sharing City's Successful Efforts

Several mayors attended the Brownfields 2003 Conference in Portland. Conference Environment Committee Chair Augusta (GA) Mayor Bob Young was in attendance. Kenosha (WI) Mayor John A. Antaramian spoke at "Environmental Insurance 101," discussing the lessons his city learned in obtaining insurance for brownfields properties. Mayor Antaramian also moderated "Growing Smarter and Stronger," a discussion which highlighted how to use the cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields to achieve Smart Growth objectives. Missoula Mayor Mike Kadas also moderated a session entitled "Bridging the Finance Gap" that provided participants with creative solutions to leveraging funding sources to keep brownfields projects and programs moving forward during tough financial times. Additionally, Mayor James Glitz from Freeport (IL) spoke at the White House Roundtable about the issues his city faces in brownfields redevelopment.
