The Home Depot to Offset Carbon with Trees
November 6, 2006
Ron Jarvis, VP of Environmental Innovation announced The Home Depot’s commitment to The Conservation Fund’s Go Zero program October 26 at The U.S. Conference of Mayors 2nd National Summit on Energy and the Environment in Atlanta.
The Home Depot Foundation, a leading organization that promotes energy efficient, sustainable affordable housing and healthy community design, was the Summit’s title sponsor. Under the Go Zero agreement, The Home Depot will fund the planting of approximately 38,000 trees on 130 acres of national and state park lands across metro Atlanta.
The trees will offset all of the carbon emissions created by the Company’s 1.7 million'square-foot headquarters complex in metro Atlanta and the carbon dioxide created by the 5,400 associates who commute to work and travel for business. The Conservation Fund and members of Team Depot, The Home Depot’s nationally recognized volunteer program, will plant the trees early next year.
