Administration Declares November 30 National Methamphetamine Awareness Day

November 6, 2006

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a new website www.usdoj.gov/methawareness to support National Methamphetamine Awareness Day set for November 30.

Located on the website is a comprehensive educational presentation on methamphetamine called Meth 101, as well as a version specifically tailored to women. According to the Justice Department, “Unlike many existing presentations, this one is directed at everyday people – mothers, college students, professionals – not members of law enforcement. The presentation is designed to give objective facts about meth and stories about its effects on real people, and does not rely on scare tactics. It seeks to educate the general public about meth and how its is made, the effects of meth on users, and the dangers posed by meth to the community, in particular to drug endangered children, and the environment.”

Also on the website are links that allow mayors and law enforcement to locate and contact local U.S. Attorney’s Office and DEA Field Office to collaborate with them in a localized event on National Methamphetamine Awareness Day.
