Mayors gave their full support to 2002 Prostate Cancer Awareness Month (PCAM) by issuing proclamations, writing letters to the editor, issuing press releases, and holding related events. Mayoral prostate cancer awareness activities included: conducting public information campaigns; sponsoring educational programs for city employees with time off for screening; and working with coalitions to publicize local free screening.
Seventy-two mayors reported that they issued proclamations, often in publicized events as depicted below. For a complete listing of mayors issuing proclamations as well as descriptions of local awareness activities, please visit the USCM Web site usmayor.org under Special Projects.
