Senate Committee Passes Bill to Reauthorize Workforce Investment Act

On October 2 the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee marked up S. 1627, Workforce Investment Act of 2003, which would reauthorize the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The bill was reported out of Committee by unanimous voice vote, without any amendments. The work of the HELP Committee was led by Senator Judd Gregg (NH), Chair of the HELP Committee and Senator Edward M. Kennedy (MA), Ranking Member, Senator Michael B. Enzi (WY), Chair of the Subcommittee on Employment, Safety and Training, and Senator Patty Murray (WA) Ranking Member. The Leadership has yet to set a date for the bill to reach the Senate floor.
