About the Mayor
October 20, 2003
The Florida Marlins, winner of Game Seven, 9-6 over the Chicago Cubs, propelled them to the World Series. As a friendly wager, Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz bet Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley some hometown gifts.
Diaz, following the October 15 game in Chicago for The National League title, will receive from Daley: Connie's deep-dish pizza, cheesecake, Mexican food, Goose Island Root Beer, potato chips, snacks from somewhere called Nuts on Clark, Vienna hot dogs, ribs and "95 packages of Wrigley Gum, one for every year since the Cubs last won a postseason series."
For the record, if the Cubs had won, Chicago city hall would have received a case of Miami's famous stone crabs, Café Bustelo and fizzy pineapple Jupiña.
