Former Denver Mayor Webb Nominated to United Nations Position
October 12, 2009
Former Denver Mayor Wellington E. Webb has been nominated by President Barack Obama as an Alternate Representative of the United States of America to the Sixty-fourth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Webb served as President of The U.S. Conference of Mayors from June of 1999 until June of 2000.
Webb served three terms as Denver’s mayor from 1991 to 2003, and is currently chief executive of Webb International, a consulting firm he started after leaving office. Tish Maes will continue to direct the consulting business.
Commenting on this appointment, Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran said, “Mayor Webb, as a former Chair of the USCM International Affairs Committee and a USCM Past President, is well qualified to represent America in the United Nations. As our President, Mayor Webb addressed the German Parliament, led the first USCM mission to Africa, and was a pioneer in forging relationships with many international mayors organizations.”
