Conference of Mayors Continues Membership Campaign in California, Illinois

The U.S. Conference of Mayors continued its fall membership campaign by attending and hosting an exhibit booth at the Illinois Municipal League 98th Conference September 15-17, and the League of California Cities Annual Conference and Expo September 21-23.

During these meetings, Conference of Mayors staff had an opportunity to meet with current members, non-member mayors and city officials, and distributed information on membership benefits and current programs to preserve funding for programs such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the Community Oriented Policing (COPS) and other programs that benefit cities directly.

Conference of Mayors Trustee Arlington Heights Mayor Arlene Mulder, Advisory Board Member Redondo Beach Mayor Michael Gin, Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz and Normal Mayor Chris Koos assisted at the exhibit booths touting the “Common Sense Jobs Agenda” that calls for a number of actions that would immediately create jobs.

Illinois and California mayors were also encouraged to attend upcoming Conference events: The Winter Meeting January 18-20, 2012 in Washington (DC) and the Annual Meeting June 13-16, 2012 in Orlando.

As part of the fall membership campaign, Conference of Mayors staff will also be participating in the Texas Municipal League 99th Annual Conference and Exhibition October 11-14. The goal of the fall membership campaign is to provide outreach, encourage participation of Conference of Mayors events, and recruitment of non-members.
