The Columbus Dispatch reports the Ohio Mayors’ Education Roundtable is considering a constitutional amendment to put on the ballot in 2006 that would include a permanent funding source for public schools. The group includes mayors for the 21 largest cities in the state of Ohio including Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell, Toledo Mayor Jack Ford, Canton Mayor Janet Creighton, Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic and Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin. Plusquellic told the Dispatch there is not a specific plan yet and he stated that the mayors hoped to have a proposal after the first of the year, after getting consensus from school superintendents, school boards, teachers unions and other interested parties.
