About the Mayor

September 29, 2003

Joe Kernan, Mayor of South Bend (IN) from 1988-1996, was elected Lieutenant Governor of the Hoosier State in 1997. Kernan is now Governor of Indiana following the death of Governor Frank O'Bannon on September 13 following a stroke in Chicago from which he never recovered. Kernan, 57, was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for 11 months and was picked by O'Bannon to be his running mate in 1996.

San Bernardino Mayor Judith Valles is celebrating the fact that her city, heart of the California Inland Empire, will become home this Fall to the first professional and locally operated television network. The Inland Empire has a potential of a three-million-plus viewer market. The station will follow the model of public broadcasting and California State University, San Bernardino, will oversee the delivery of high-quality, live news, and other programming for San Bernardino County.
