Augusta Mayor Bob Young, Co-Chair of the Conference's Energy Policy Committee, met with Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Spencer Abraham and Under Secretary David Garman September 14 to discuss a variety of energy issues, including how the Conference could most effectively assist DOE in implementing energy programs that would assist cities in reducing their energy costs. Following the Energy Department meeting, Young met with Commissioner Nora Mead Brownell of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and toured the agency's newly established market monitoring center. The center is designed to provide real time information on energy markets.
