Conference of Mayors Immediate Past President Trenton Mayor Douglas H. Palmer led the Conference’s effort to promote the Mayors 10-Point Plan during the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver.

Conference President Miami Mayor Manny Diaz asked Palmer to spearhead this effort to promote the Conference of Mayors 10-Point Plan during the state delegation caucus breakfast meetings in Denver. Palmer appeared before several state caucuses, including Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, to provide information and promotional materials to the delegates.

Speaking before the breakfasts, Palmer said, “I appreciate the opportunity to share with you the agenda of the nation’s mayors, “Strong Cities, Strong Families for a Strong America, our 10-Point Plan. The U. S. Conference of Mayors is taking this message directly to the Presidential candidates, the media and the voters and now to you here today.”

Palmer elaborated on a number of issues in the 10-Point Plan, including fighting crime, full funding for the energy block grant, doubling the community development block grant, infrastructure, children and at-risk youth, homeland security, transportation, and a call for travel and tourism to be made a national policy priority.

A number of mayors attending the DNC joined Palmer in these briefings of state delegations on the Mayors 10-Point Plan.

“We are very pleased at the enthusiasm, interest, and support of the state delegations and feel that this was a very worthwhile endeavor,” Palmer said.
