Homelessness Event at the Democratic Convention
September 15, 2008
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper was host to homelessness advocates and providers from across the nation August 26 during the Democratic National Convention. Baltimore Mayor Shelia Dixon and former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros attended the breakfast event, which showcased the success of Denver’s Road Home, a plan to end homelessness in the city and county of Denver. Since its start in 2005, Denver’s plan has led to an 11 percent reduction in overall homelessness and a 36 percent decrease in chronic homelessness. In addition, there has been a significant decrease in panhandling in downtown Denver.
