Conference President Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has made the following appointments for standing committee, task force and council chairs, co-chairs and vice chairs.

Nickels has invited all his appointed mayors to join with the Executive Committee and Advisory Board for the Fall Leadership Meeting to be held in Seattle October 1-3. Key members of the Administration and Congress are being invited to this meeting. Issues for discussion will include ARRA implementation, the new White House urban/metropolitan initiative, climate protection/EECBG funding, transportation reauthorization, healthcare reform, and the 2010 Census. And because many mayors had hoped to take part in important conversations with the Administration during the recent 77th Annual Conference in Providence, the USCM Leadership has decided that all mayors who registered and attended the Providence Meeting are invited to attend the Fall Leadership Meeting in Seattle.

On the front end of the Fall Leadership Meeting, USCM will be hosting a meeting on Healthy Cities. The meeting will take place on Thursday, October 1 from 9:00am until 3:00pm and will highlight design tools that cities can employ to allow access to affordable and nutritious foods in underserved communities with an emphasis on methods to: bring supermarkets to underserved areas; increase access to healthy food in corner stores; operate neighborhood farmers markets; and create community gardens.
